Opening Dialogue Over Dinner at Supper with the Supe
Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen invited select parents from each campus to “Supper with the Supe,” an event for BISD administration and parents to come together and inform, engage and fellowship over a good meal.
“I wanted a chance to meet face-to-face and build open communication with our parents,” said Allen. “Having our parents involved in the educational process is a game-changer and we want to stress the importance of the role they have in our students’ success.”
Attendees learned about the district goals for the school year, the benefits of parental involvement and were able to provide feedback to administration.
“I’m looking forward to enhancing our connections with our parents,” said Allen. “These round table sessions give me a chance to listen to their thoughts and opinions on what is going well, challenges and needs of the district.”
Part of Allen’s goal was to encourage this group of parents to become ambassadors for the District and take the information shared back to their campus and into the community. “By reaching out to these smaller groups, I hope to be able to get our district goals out to the larger community,” said Allen.
Similar meetings have been held recently to build connections with business partners, local faith-based organizations, teachers, media and more, with hopes to continue the open dialogue throughout the year.
“This is not the last parents will see of me,” said Allen. “Expect continual communication, engagement opportunities and presence at the district and community level.”
