BISD Students Level Up Their Leadership at Fall Convention
The Texas Association of Student Councils hosted the District 17 Fall Convention October 9 at the Beaumont Civic Center and Julie Rogers Theater. Members from Beaumont United, Early College and West Brook High Schools, along with Odom Academy, spent the day learning about social media and their digital footprint.
"The speaker told us to be careful what we post on social media,” said Beaumont United Senior and Student Body President Kynnedi Jackson. “Bad social media posts can keep you from getting into college or getting a job.”
Students learned how powerful social media can be in influencing their decisions and that phones almost control them more than they control their phones. The convention also provided an opportunity for students to participate in leadership training, network with members of other councils and learn ways in which they can provide service to their community.
“I love being able to help others and being a part of student council,” said Jackson. “Going to the convention enabled us to get many ideas for our campus and level up our leadership.”
