West Brook Students Give and Receive
West Brook High School football players, cheerleaders and STARS hosted a pep rally and visited with residents at College Street Healthcare Center.
“Our annual trip is a great opportunity for the West Brook family to show support to members of our community that may not have the traditional support system that others have,” said Coach Eric Peevey. “Many nursing home residents do not have regular visitors. This will mark the fourth year in a row that we have gone and every year is a great experience for us.”
Students sit and spend time with the senior citizens, gaining knowledge and history. “We encourage the kids to truly listen and let the residents do the talking to tell about their stories of the past,” said Student Activities Director Tisha Smith.
“Anytime our kids have the opportunity to get out in the community, it's a positive,” said Peevey. “Sometimes students can live the life in a bubble, and when they get a chance to see other aspects of life, it allows them to see all the ways that they can help, or be positive influences in other people's lives.”
