Jones-Clark is Bully-Free
Phalen Leadership Academies at Jones-Clark Elementary hosted a bully-free week full of activities to promote awareness and prevention.
“Being a bully is a serious discipline infraction,” said principal Stephanie Hayes. “Teachers and scholars are reminded if they see something, say something, so we can do something.”
Instructors from business partner Texas Karate Academy visited the campus to promote self defense, discipline and resilience. Scholars got a firsthand look at a tactical demonstration and heard a motivational speech by Sensei Mike Berryhill and students from the academy.
“I like to stress the importance of being confident,” said Berryhill. “We encourage them to hold their head up and believe in themselves.”
Throughout the week, students “stomped” out bullying on boots day and embraced differences wearing mismatched clothes. “We discussed how words stick and hurt inwardly, so we wore our clothes inside out,” said Hayes. “Every scholar also took a bully free pledge.”
