Guess Students Serve the Community

The Guess Elementary Student Council is spending their Sundays making sack lunches for the less fortunate in conjunction with St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica Center.

Counselor Erika Johnson and teacher Hayley Touchett co-chair the campus council. Each month they plan activities to teach children about providing service to others and stress that service hours will be needed in secondary school.

Small groups at St. Anthony prepare 80 sack lunches every Sunday. “Since Some Other Place is closed on Sundays, church members distribute sack lunches to those in need,” said Johnson. “I thought this would be a great opportunity for our students to participate on two Sundays in December.”

“I believe this experience is humbling and definitely reminds us that we are fortunate to have what we have,” said Johnson. “As a member of a community, we must learn how to help others. We really want them to know that giving of our time is more valuable than any gift we can buy.”
