ECHS Learns Life-Saving Skillset
Checking off the list of requirements for graduation in the spring, ECHS seniors received training to do hands-on CPR, the Heimlich maneuver and how to use an AED from nurse Candice Pfleegor.
“It is so important for our students to enter into their adult life knowing these skills because there are so many different situations that these techniques can potentially save someone's life,” said Pfleegor.
Each student watched a video, learned the steps from Pfleegor and received a mannequin to practice the techniques hands on. Pfleegor said she has been proud that her students have shown up to her trainings prepared to learn and leave yearning for more.
“A student brought me a list of names who want to take it a step further and receive their CPR certification,” said Pfleegor. “I am excited to see that enthusiasm and I am working on setting up a class for these students.”
“Soon we are hoping that we will be able to include Stop the Bleed tourniquet kits to this training,” said Pfleegor. “We are doing our best to equip our students with the skills they need in the event of emergency and life saving situations.”
West Brook and Beaumont United will also be receiving these trainings prior to graduation.
