Hour of Power Adds Up for Lucas Parents
Lucas Pre-K Center hosted an “Hour of Math Power” with tools to equip parents in helping their student be successful, along with lunch provided by the Lucas PTA.
BISD Early Childhood Coordinator Valerie Maclin presented counting, number recognition, shapes and math vocabulary activities to demonstrate how they can be used to help students be ready to advance to elementary school.
“We are reaching out to help parents meet the developmental milestones of their student,” said Maclin. “By using these activities and supporting these steps, our students will be kindergarten-ready; we want them to be ready!”
Parents were reminded to: set aside a time each day to work with their child, practice counting daily, review recognizing shapes regularly and point out the math in the everyday world around them.
“Several parents and grandparents stated they appreciated they event because they learned something too,” said Parent Coordinator Henrietta Savoy. “That's what it is all about!”
