Velazquez Elected Texas FFA President
West Brook sophomore Kelly Velazquez was elected as the Texas FFA Rice Belt District President, the first student to hold the position in the history of Beaumont FFA.
Velazquez represented Beaumont FFA as an officer candidate at the annual convention. “She had to apply, take a test of her FFA knowledge and give a speech in front of the whole district to be voted on to determine if she would indeed be elected a District Officer,” said Ag Farm teacher Stephanie Hoppe. “I am proud to say that by the end of the night, Kelly was not only elected as an officer she was elected president.”
Velazquez’s duties will include leading the District at camps, conventions and competitions throughout the 2020-21 school year. The Rice Belt District consists of 21 FFA Chapters from schools across Southeast Texas.
“I can not express how incredibly excited and proud I am of this young lady and I can not wait to see what the future has in store for her in all she does in FFA,” said Hoppe.
